Immigrant Voting Rights Campaigns
In 2010, Voters in Portland Maine considered a ballot proposal that narrowly lost by a margin of 53% to 47% which would have granted voting rights in all municipal elections to legal permanent residents.
In 2018, the mayor and a city council member proposed reviving the campaign for immigrant voting and the Portland School Board voted to support the measure, but it did not reach the ballot.
In 2021, voters elected a Charter Revision Commission that approved a proposal in 2022 to put a measure before the voters in the future.
